Vivienne Della Chiesa
Here is a very rare rendition of a classic standard by the great Vivienne Della Chiesa, who was a renowned opera singer and TV show hostess.
Chicago native Vivienne (or Vivian) Della Chiesa (1915-2009) made her debut in the Chicago Civic Opera in 1936 and appeared regularly on radio through the 1960s. She was so popular that she had her own national radio broadcast during the 1930s. She made several 78 rpm recordings for Silvertone in the 1940s. She is a good example of a singer unjustly forgotten because she did not make a lot of records. She had a number of seasons at the San Francisco Opera and even more with the Chicago Opera. She never sang at the Metropolitan. She had a very beautiful voice and if she were singing today she would be a very highly regarded artist. She has also recorded popular songs and made several beautiful records.

I read today she just passed away in a nursing home on Long Island. In 1969 I was a guest on her talk show in Cincinnati. She was gracious and engaging. Bon voyage ...
